Cast iron material has long been the mainstream material choice for the manufacture of forklift counterweights because of its high density, good casting performance, excellent compressive strength and relatively economical cost.Its durability performance is directly related to the stable service ability of the forklift throughout its life cycle.In conventional indoor warehouses or dry outdoor environments, qualified cast iron counterweight itself has sufficient corrosion resistance. Its durability challenges mainly come from long-term vibration loads and potential mechanical shocks, which require the internal organization of cast iron to be dense and there are no casting defects to resist fatigue.However, in more complex working conditions, such as wet and rainy docks, chemical storage areas containing corrosive chemicals, or cold chain logistics centers that require frequent flushing, the corrosion risk of counterweights has risen sharply.

In order to meet the diverse environmental challenges, the surface protection treatment process of cast iron counterweight is essential, which forms the second line of defense for its durability.A complete and high-quality surface treatment usually includes several key steps: first, a clean, active metal surface with a certain roughness is obtained through shot blasting and cleaning; then phosphating or passivation treatment is carried out to form a layer of conversion film that enhances the adhesion of the coating; then an electrophoretic primer is applied, the process can make the paint film evenly cover all parts, including the edges and the inner cavity, providing excellent anti-rust ability; and finally, a topcoat with specific properties is sprayed, such as a chemical-resistant topcoat or a high-gloss protective topcoat.The quality of this combined protection system, especially the coating thickness, adhesion and integrity, is the key to determining whether the counterweight can protect the substrate for a long time in harsh environments.
